With a beautiful teardrop style motor housing the Donaire ceiling fan is stunning in design. It is constructed from the best quality 316 marine grade stainless steel (far superior to the normal 304 stainless) which is the only material resistant enough for salt-spray or salty air locations. It is ideal for any outdoor use by the sea which would quickly destroy regular 304 grade stainless steel which is no more resistant to salt spray than regular mild steel. The reason being is that the protective passive layer that forms on 304 stainless steel is broken by the chloride ions in the salt rendering it useless which many builders don’t realise. On 316 stainless steel this doesn’t happen due to the presence of molybdenum which keeps the protective layer intact.
Additionally, the Donaire is IP code 44 (International Protection Code) rated for wet and coastal locations which means that this it can take direct splashes of water from any direction (Note: it still needs to be covered as it can’t take direct water jets).
