Even before installation, there are several things you need to take note to ensure that you get a grip of the ceiling fan device you just purchased and know exactly what you need to do in case of emergency or technical issues.

Today, we’ll take a dip to this information. Feel free to pull out your pen and paper and have the following listed down. You’ll never know when you’ll need them. It’s wise to keep them close at bay just in case.

The list below is a combination of general information, reminder and tips you will need in prior to installation and in the long run. Be sure the keep them in mind!

So let’s start off with:

  1. As a safety precaution, anything related to electrical connection and disconnection must only be performed by a licensed electrician.
  2. If you decide on reversing the fan, it’s important to turn it off first and wait for it to stop completely. This will prevent damages to the motor of the unit.
  3. Make it a point to ask your manufacturer for a copy of a troubleshooting checklist if it’s not included on the package.
  4. Fan blades should be at least 2.1 meters above the floor.
  5. Before assembling your fan (for recently purchased ones), confirm that all parts are in.
  6. During summer, the reverse switch shall be in ‘down’ position to make the fan rotate in counterclockwise direction. This results to the airflow being directed downwards for cooling.
  7. During winter, the reverse switch shall be in ‘up’ position to make the fan rotate in clockwise direction. This results to the airflow being directed upwards for energy conservation in winter.
  8. Ceiling fans are not created the same. There are some which moves less and more than the other.
  9. Balancing kit is provided to balance the ceiling fan during initial installation.
  10. Cleaning your ceiling fan should be done periodically. Use a soft brush or lint free cloth to avoid damaging the paint finish.
  11. Water should not be used in cleaning your ceiling fan for it could damage your motor and possibly lead to an electrical shock.
  12. Most manufacturing warrantees cover product faults that may develop but not the minor complaints such as noise (for noise is natural for fans).

The list of reminders and tips could go on but the most important thing every fan user should remember is to check their warrantees.

A trusted manufacturer should be able to provide you with a promise of helping you out on some technical issues of your fan either on a written document or a verbal one. If the warrantee is done by a sales representative using verbal communication, do the initiatives to write it down and have the appropriate personnel on your fan manufacturer sign it.

This will ensure that you have their word.
